First it was between Pele-Maradona (Pele vs Maradona). Later it was Messi-Pele-Maradona (Messi vs Pele vs Maradona). Between 2009-2012 Messi sealed his name as the best player ever to MAJORITY of the football pundits. And in 2014-2015 he cemented concreted his legacy as the greatest ever. But there always have been arguments from anti-Messi camps that Messi is this good because the defenders are now weak and don't play rough. They only make soft challenges because making rough tackles causes them punishment. This argument is one of the main reasons many still put Maradona and Pele ahead of Messi. But is it true? Absolutely NOT. Defenders today are still aggressive and rough + they are technically way way better than before. Messi is so good that he makes them look stupid and slow.
